Stamp Duty Exemption - Disadvantaged Areas

On Friday 30th November 2001 the Government implemented the first phase of stamp duty exemption. Properties situated within a disadvantaged area where the consideration or the premium for a lease does not exceed £150,000 (residential property) are now exempt from stamp duty. Phase two was announced in the 2003 Budget in which the upper band was removed for commercial property.
